The Sand Onion Bowl is a fire safe ceramic bowl, made from micaceous clay using a recipe originally developed by ceramicist Felipe Ortega, rooted in Indigenous New Mexican pottery traditions. Its small integrated handle makes it easy to lift straight from the oven.

Unlike most stoneware, this fire safe ceramic bowl can go directly into the oven, under the broiler, or over a gentle direct flame. Its name and shape take their cue from French onion soup, but the bowl works just as well for any typical use, from a baked side dish to a simple serving bowl at the table.

Finished in a burnt cream, ochre toned glaze with black copper oxide details, its rustic surface carries the same warmth as the clay it's made from, with small natural variations from piece to piece.

Dishwasher, microwave and fire safe, it's built for daily use in a kitchen that cooks as much as it serves, and holds up to the heat of both.
